Saxophonist and bandleader, Ewen is originally from Malawi but spent his formative years in Edinburgh.

He is currently based in Oxford. Amongst others, he has performed with Jim Mullen, Steve Waterman, Geoff Castle, Kenny Baker and Dave Jones.
He has an MMus in Jazz performance from Birmingham Conservatoire and teaches the saxophone and Jazz Improvisation around Oxfordshire.

Ewen joins Dan Johnson (guitar), Mat Short (bass) and Si Potts (drums) for this highly anticipated date…

HOW IT WORKS:

Doors open at 7:30pm and food is available to order from this time, until 9:00pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.

We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect.

We first met Robert when he performed with Maff Potts and our own Mat Short at a fund raiser in Sheffield.

He was invited to come up from Reading to perform back in April and the gig was a blast. That date saw drummer Lou Potts and guitarist Dan Johnson join Mat Short on bass with Robert for a sell out performnace.

The session went so well, we thought it was time we shared him with Newark audiences again. This date sees Robert meet PRS, now that Steve Rodda is recovered and back gigging again. Si Potts is on drums with Mat holding up the low end on bass as always.

Robert works with his band Otwingroup, a sort of jazz fusion outfit, based in Reading and they spend quite alot of their time recording in the studio. This live session will see Robert in a relaxed setting, playing standards and a few originals.
