We know restrictions are now almost gone, but for the short term, after protecting us all since June 2020, our staff will continue to wear face coverings to protect you. If possible, we’d appreciate it if you could do the same, when moving around the building, but won’t ask you to do so – it’s your call…

Team Stamford...

Building on our experience from opening Oakham, we’ve recruited another superstar team with a view to using our organic approach to developing the roles in the team. Jo is training up as Team Leader at Stamford, having worked in the coffee industry for many years and Mat is putting her through her paces in our newest store.

So, while we refer to Newark as where it all began, technically, that’s slightly off.

Before Newark opened, we had a coffee shop in Stamford, directly opposite this current store. Back in the year 2000, when co-owners Liz & Mat ran a small chain of bookshops, their first foray into the world of coffee began in their first coffee shop, part of the 12th bookshop in their small chain.

Whilst the Stamford coffee shop and bookshop was being developed, Mat was also setting up the coffee shop in Newark and the bookshop chain was sold, along with it the Stamford coffee shop.

So, the short version? Mat cut his teeth learning to make coffee in Stamford back in the early noughties.

Naturally,  as soon as the opportunity to open a Stray’s in Stamford came along, the team were quick to act!

Set in a beautiful listed building, the coffee shop spans two floors and seats around 80 people. Following on from the remit set at Oakham, to feel like Stray’s in Newark without trying to clone it, Stamford has ticked all the boxes! Light and airy with lots of space, this store also benefits from having a lovely decked patio area in the walled garden at the back of the shop – a secret garden if you will.

The first floor room overlooks the High Street, with a unique view of the town. With lovely tall sash windows and high ceilings, it’s a great spot to hide away from the populace if you need a quieter spot to enjoy your brew. Also, it makes a great room to hire for a small function, with it’s own loos and the ability to isolate from the rest of the shop.

The servery is open plan, with two 2-group Conti Monte Carlo espresso machines to keep up with demand. Our kitchens are also totally open plan, so you can watch your food being made for you – definitely making us the unique offer in Stamford!
