Neil Hunter 4

Neil Hunter 4
NEIL HUNTER, a student of classical piano and organ at Newcastle Cathedral who has since the 1980’s focused on jazz, latin, fusion and related genres. His range of styles makes him an eclectic and dynamic addition to any jazz group.
He has built his reputation as a sideman alongside leading artists in major venues throughout Europe and by playing on sessions for US and UK labels.
The lineup is a little different for this date. Joining Neil, is drummer Ian Beestin, a long-time performer at Stray’s, formerly playing with Wendy Kirkland and Pat Sprakes in their Organik Trio in the late noughties. It’ll be great to have Ian back with us for this date.
It’s in the nature of jazz musicians to meet and play and so this group of musicians are no strangers – Ian played with Neil Hunter and was the “B” in “BoHoP” which was Ian Beestin, Neil Hunter and Geoff Pearson (bass)
Dan Johnson (guitar) has also worked with Neil & Ian and has recorded with them both…
…so actually our own Mat Short (bass) will be the odd one out for this date!
Neil is bringing along a selection of lovely Hammond style tunes as well as a suite of interesting jazz standards, with tunes from a wide range of genres including grooves from Jeff Lorber, Dave Newton, The Meters and more. So all is set once again for a great evening of live Jazz at Stray’s.
FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ SESSIONS AT STRAY’S ARE SPONSORED BY PRIMEPRINT…
HOW IT WORKS:
Doors open at 7:30pm and food is available to order from this time, until 9:00pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.
We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect.
Lastly, from the staff at Stray’s and the house band, we look forward to seeing you and sharing some fabulous jazz with you…
