Two Potts and a Pair - Stamford 15/1/21
As brothers, Si & Maff Potts have been playing together since they were boys under the watchful eye of their band-leading and trumpet playing Dad.
They met double bass player Steve Kershaw when they joined his 7-piece jump jive band The Honkin’ Hepcats who went on to be regulars at The Edinburgh Festival and Cork Jazz Festival for many years as well as a long running residency at London’s famous 100 Club on Oxford Street.
Maff’s biggest influences are Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner and Dudley Moore. He has a distinctly funky tinge to his playing, exploited to full extent in his own band Trappist Funk (now defunct – or is that de-funked). Maff is also an accomplished composer and Stray’s will be treated to some of his very catchy original tunes.
“I love Maff’s originals – he bares his soul through his music and it’s a blessing to behold”…
Mat Short – Stray’s co-founder and balding bassist

Our headline artists play with the Stray’s House band P.R.S. who are Si Potts (drums), Steve Rodda (geetar) and Stray’s own Mat Short (bass).
EVENT DETAILS:
HOW IT WORKS:
Doors open at 6:45pm and food is available to order from this time, until 8:45pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.
We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect, particularly in light of the current Covid-19 restrictions.
We offer incentives to buy tickets on the night, to forthcoming gigs and recommend buying these in the interval, to save you waiting at the end of the night.
Lastly, from the staff at Stray’s and the house band, we look forward to seeing you and sharing some fabulous jazz with you…
Thank You!
… from the staff and musical collective at Stray’s Coffee – we couldn’t do this without you!
During the Covid-19 restrictions, we have changed the format of our events slightly.
In order to continue to offer live jazz safely, we ask you to read through these points and make sure you’re happy with them, before purchasing tickets.
We really want you to enjoy the jazz, but safety is of paramount importance.
Mat and the Stray’s Jazz Collective
We will limit the number of people/tickets at each event, based on each shop, but for indoor performances, his will typically be around 30 persons per event.
We will sell virtual tickets online to remove one layer of unnecessary contact. These will be sold on a first-come, first served basis via the website or relevant shop. Tickets will be virtual, so no physical ticket will be issued. On the night, we will greet you at the door and take you to your table. At this point, we register your attendance for Test & Trace, using your booking details.
All ticket holders will have a table for their party size and we will allocate each table. We will not allow customers to move chairs/tables around, so if you have a preference, please use the ‘notes’ section to request close, middle or rear seating when ordering tickets.
We have safety screens to provide a barrier between tables where required
We will provide table service, to remove as many queues as possible, but won’t take orders at the table, once the performance has begun. This is to limit the need for shouting over the music! To order during the performance, you will need to come to the bar/servery, where we have installed full height screens, and we will bring orders to your table when they are ready.
We will only take card/contactless payments, as we do now.
We will operate a one-way system for customers where practicable.
Musicians will be 1-2m apart and there will be 1-2m space between the band and the first row of tables. The stage area will be marked out to ensure distancing between band members.
We may limit the lineup to 4, to allow suitable space between the musicians.
We request that you wear a face mask when leaving your table to move around the building. This can be removed when ordering at the counter and of course, once you return to your table. We respectfully ask you to observe the general government guidelines regarding who you attend our events with.
We will provide a free disposable face mask for any customers who have come without one. Hand sanitiser will be available and clearly marked at various points throughout the shop.
The table layout plan is an indication of how we will ensure tables are safely spaced. The layout is likely to change, depending on the various numbers who book, so for example, a table of 6 may be shown on the plan, but we may put two tables of 2 in that space, if it is safe to do so. So the seating will be in approximately the same areas as shown, albeit in different formats to conform to our risk assessments.
We reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone who is unable to comply with our Covid Secure measures. |
