Ian Hill [Newark] 30/9/22
West Midlands based saxophonist and educator Ian Hill has a very smooth, laid back sound, with hints of Stan Getz and Ben Webster in his playing.
Ian has worked extensively, as a sessional woodwind teacher, for both Staffordshire Music Service, Warwickshire County Music Service and Birmingham Music Service, specialising in saxophone tuition, but additionally teaching clarinet and flute from beginner to Grade 8 standard. Ian is also a visiting saxophone teacher at the prestigious King Edward VI High School for Girls in Birmingham.
He gigs with several outfits; from The Dan Collective, a Steely Dan tribute band; to the contemporary 3 Way Split; plus fronting his own band, the Ian Hill Quartet.
We first met Ian when he came to the Jazz and Tapas nights at our Newark store back in 2011. He also put on a ‘sax from scratch’ workshop, which went down a storm – expect smooth jazz standards, funk and some classics for this date…
FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ SESSIONS AT STRAY’S ARE SPONSORED BY PRIMEPRINT…
HOW IT WORKS:
Doors open at 7:30pm and food is available to order from this time, until 9:00pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.
We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect.
We offer incentives to buy tickets on the night, to forthcoming gigs and recommend buying these in the interval, to save you waiting at the end of the night.
Lastly, from the staff at Stray’s and the house band, we look forward to seeing you and sharing some fabulous jazz with you…
