Dickie Baker - Oakham - 20/8/21
Dickie Baker is a jazz and swing pianist best known for his involvement with Twelve To The Bar.
Formed in 1999 Twelve to the Bar comprised twelve “Big Band” enthusiasts who had a lot of energy but not a lot of music. Many of the twelve were past members of the Toot Hill Dance Band and went on to play in bands of their own.
Dickie also plays with jazz vocalist Amanda Barlow, has a duo with Double Bassist John Porter and has appeared at many festivals over the years. He has a light, delicate touch and brings bounce and swing to the jazz standards.
Enjoying a residency at Yeung Sing in Bingham, Dickie has been invited to play there every week for the last seven years – a popular pianist indeed and we’re thrilled to introduce him to the Oakham Jazz fans.
FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ SESSIONS AT STRAY’S ARE SPONSORED BY PRIMEPRINT…
HOW IT WORKS:
Doors open at 7:30pm and food is available to order from this time, until 9:00pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.
We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect.
We offer incentives to buy tickets on the night, to forthcoming gigs and recommend buying these in the interval, to save you waiting at the end of the night.
Lastly, from the staff at Stray’s and the house band, we look forward to seeing you and sharing some fabulous jazz with you…
