Dan Johnson 4 - Market Harborough - 13/5/22
Dan Johnson (guitarist) tells us in his biography, that he was initially intrigued by the sounds of The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Smiths and Stray Cats and that he “started to play along by ear on a cheap Argos classical – after a lot of perseverance and hacking away, eventually I was ready for my first electric guitar”.
As a teenager he started to delve into jazz, funk, soul, ambient, indie and classic pop; but from his 20’s Dan’s main focus was jazz.
“During this time I was lucky to meet a local sax player and all round amazing guy Eddie Kettlewell who turned me on to lots of great jazz and was very encouraging in what I was doing”.
This led to many years of playing with local and not so local jazz musicians, including gigs with Dave O’Higgins, Joe Giglio and Sheryl Bailey amongst others.
FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ SESSIONS AT STRAY’S ARE SPONSORED BY PRIMEPRINT…
HOW IT WORKS:
Doors open at 7:30pm and food is available to order from this time, until 9:00pm. Seats are unallocated, so get in early if you have specific requirements – please note, we always give priority to elderly, single and customers with disabilities.
We want you to have a great night with us! However, one man’s boogie is another man’s dirge, so we operate a minimal talking policy during the performances. We ask you to consider your neighbours in this respect.
We offer incentives to buy tickets on the night, to forthcoming gigs and recommend buying these in the interval, to save you waiting at the end of the night.
Lastly, from the staff at Stray’s and the house band, we look forward to seeing you and sharing some fabulous jazz with you…
